About Cibapac   Vision Statement

About Cibapac

Cibapac, based on a large factory campus in Cape Town's Montague Gardens, primarily services the meat and fresh produce sectors. It is the largest manufacturer of PVC stretch/shrink film in South Africa, and has a major share of the expanded polystyrene (EPS) tray market for fresh produce, meat and fast foods.

This wholly South African owned company is also the only manufacturer of
multi-layered, seamless casings for polonies and has made significant inroads into MAP (modified atmosphere packaging) and flexible APET base and lidding for the fresh meat sector.

Cibapac has been created from the South African division of LINPAC Packaging and is owned by current management and two private equity partners, Leaf Private Equity and Clearwater Capital. The transfer of ownership was effective from
1st January 2009 and through Clearwater Capital's participation, adds appropriate BEE credentials to the new entity.

The name "Ciba" is derived from "cibus" meaning "food" in Latin.

The organisation is customer-focussed and aims at providing a comprehensive packaging solution to our customers. We have expanded our product offering to cover all major food related packaging needs to our target market.

Successful product launches in the recent past have included the first local manufacture of APET trays for modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) in the meat industry, which is a key trend in the sector for shelf appeal and extended shelf life, and the launch of APET rollstock that has won major market share among meat and produce packers. Future plans include offering printed shrink pouches and tray lidding with customer-specific designs.

Cibapac has a good relationship with its former UK parent and, via a technology agreement, will continue to hold exclusive rights to LINPAC products in South Africa.

• Our PVC Filmwrap has been specifically designed to protect fresh food which enhances product presentation with a high gloss and a great visual appeal.
• The production and technological capabilities allows us to produce film that is precise to customers needs whatever the application.
• The film can be used on manual or automated machines and can be supplied pre-perforated.
• CIBAPAC Packaging supplies PVC film in both unprinted and printed forms, with printing ranging from 1 to 5 colours.

Black & White Trays

• A wide range of trays are available to suit the needs of our customers.
• Polystyrene foamed trays are used for fresh packaging of red meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables and various other applications like front store packaging.
• The trays are ideal for pre-packaging and supermarket display.
• Trays can be used for manual packaging as well as on automatic wrapping machines with our Cibawrap foodfilm.
• Polystyrene foamed trays have the lowest carbon footprint of all packaging trays.

Black & White Absorption Trays

• These polystyrene foam trays are specifically produced with advanced technology to hygienically absorb fluids released from fresh meat and chicken.
• Single product for holding the product as well as absorbing the fluids. Easy for packaging.
• Aesthetic enhancement of the displayed product.

Black Double Laminated Trays

• Ideal for bulk packaging of half a lamb.
• Sturdy and good presentation on shelves.

Backing Boards

• Black flat polystyrene foam boards of various sizes.
• Ideal for the packaging and display of fish and cold meats.
• When used in conjunction with Cibapouch (gas barrier structure) then extended shelf life obtained specifically for matured fresh red meat.

Cibaliners

• Two sizes in black and white are available for placing in the tray.
• Can be placed precisely in the tray where fluids are expected to accumulate.
• Absorbs fluid from fresh protein products.

Base FTF

• CIBAFLEX BASE FTF is CIBAPAC's locally manufactured 5-layer co-extruded base film. Ease of thermoforming coupled with excellent barrier properties, makes our base ideal for use on all thermoforming equipment.
• We offer a wide range of standard thicknesses in various widths with the standard thicknesses ranging as follows: 100; 130; 150; 175; and 200 micron respectively.
• We also offer Extra High Barrier EVOH constructions in addition to our Nylon based range.

Top FTF

• CIBAFLEX TOP FTF is CIBAPAC's locally manufactured 5-layer co-extruded lidding film for use on thermoform equipment for vacuum packing protein products like Fresh & Processed Meats and Cheese products.
• Our lidding offers excellent barrier properties with good clarity and gloss, which results in optimal product shelf-life and display opportunities.
• We offer a standard range of sizes on a 70mic Thickness, but will consider thicker specifications if it falls within our minimum quantity runs.

Base RTF

• We produce Rigid and Semi-Rigid Base film for use on thermoforming equipment to be used in gas-flushing or MAP applications.
• Our HIGH BARRIER APET materials offer excellent clarity and forming, coupled with good gas-barrier properties for shelf-life extension.
• We can start from thicknesses of 300 micron ranging to 700 micron in clear or black film at this stage.

Top RTF

• We supply TOP RTF films specifically for MAP applications that offers excellent gas barriers which comes in a range of shrinkable, peelable and anti-fog options.
• The thickness of our CIBAFLEW TOP RTF Films range from 30mic to 65mic.
• Our CIBAFLEX TOP RTF is used as a lidding on both our CIBAFLEX BASE RTF and our CIBAPET APET TRAY MAP Ranges.

Environmental Initiative

The Plastics Federation's strategic environmental objective is to enhance waste collection and recycling with industry's involvement and at their cost. This is effectively a form of "extended producer responsibility". The plastics industry recognises its responsibilities with regards to waste management and especially litter, and absolutely intends to actively solve the problems along with Government and other stakeholders.

Occupational Health & Safety

18001:2007 STANDARD SUMMARY.

The BSI 18001:2007 Standard provides the elements of occupational heath and safety system that can be integrated with other systems. The system specifies requirements, that enables the organisation to develop and implement OHS policy and objectives that take both OHS risk and legislative requirements into account. The system provides a review approach based on the PDCA* cycle in which the organisation must;

• establish, implement processes that achieve OHS policy and objectives.
• review the effectiveness of the implemented processes.
• take action to improve the system performance and

BRC Certification

Cibapac is proud to inform you that we have sustained our certification against the BRC Global Standards for Packaging and Packaging Material and have also achieved certification against the BSI OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety requirements. Both standards are accepted internationally and provide the framework for rigorous and sustainable governance of quality, food safety and occupational health and safety practices. The BSI 18001:2007 Standard provides the elements of occupational health and safety system that can be integrated with other systems. The system specifies requirements, that enables the organisation to develop and implement OHS policy and objectives that take both OHS risk and legislative requirements into account. The system provides a review approach based on the PDCA* cycle in which the organisation must;

• establish, implement processes that achieve OHS policy and objectives
• review the effectiveness of the implemented processes
• take action to improve the system performance and
• demonstrate conformity of the system to the requirements of the 18001 standard.

With the introduction of the Consumer Act, in March 2011, these production quality standards are very important to our customers that deal with consumers.
